Tansy Troy is an educationalist, performer, maker of bird and animal masks, and writer and composer of musical eco-dramas, which she tours around theatres and festivals in India. This year, she published The Great Nicobar Journey with Talking Cub/Speaking Tiger, following sell-out productions of the theatrical adaptation of the tale. She considers the birds and animals of Great Nicobar to be co-authors of this story. In 2021, Tansy conceived The Apple Press, a young people’s journal featuring work by both students and household names in literature. Her regularly published poetry, articles, reviews, and illustrations can be found in a wide range of journals, magazines, and broadsheets, including The Hindustan Times, The Hindu, Scroll India, Open Magazine, The Chakkar, Sanctuary Asia, and Frontline. Tansy has published three poetry collections: Ratnakosha, With Earth as My Witness (Red River 2023 & 2025), and Singing to the Eumenides (Writers Workshop). She has been anthologised in The Yearbooks of Indian Poetry in English 2023, 2024, and 2025 (Hawakal and Pippa Rann, London), Red Earth (Shantiniketan Trust, 2025), and Tales from the Tribal Lands (Rupa, 2026). Tansy continues to roam the forests in search of stories, sometimes stopping to rest with her family of birds and animals in a treehouse high in the Himalayas.
