Nisha Ravindranathan is a writer, poet, publisher, and a fully funded scholar of
the Royal Scottish Arts Council. She graduated Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi,
with degrees in English Literature, Political Science, Gender and Justice,
topping her university in her Masters. She went on to get yet another Masters
Research Degree in Shakespeare and Theatre at The Shakespeare Institute located
in Stratford-upon-Avon, University of Birmingham, and is also a graduate in
Creative Writing from the University of Edinburgh, and Publishing from the
Seagull School of Publishing in Kolkata.
Her career spans newspapers, magazines,
publishing houses, theatre companies, and creative agencies. Her essays,
travelogues, long-form interviews, stories, and other writing have appeared in
The Hindu, The Deccan Herald, First City Magazine, Scroll, The Huffington Post,
Vogue, GQ, The Economist, The Daily O, and Brown Paper Bag, among others. She
has written scripts for Earth and Air Films, and two of her plays have been
performed to full houses at Scotland’s Traverse Theatre.
Her work in books includes coffee-table books on art, Ayurveda, Indian food culture, as well as one chronicling the history of the National Defence Academy. She began her career in publishing as a junior editor at BLAFT books and has since put together anthologies of long form interviews, graphic novels, pulp fiction, and poetry for various houses.
Currently she manages Parijatham Books (founded
2023), an independent publishing house with two imprints: Dubki, which publishes
books for children aged three and up, and Flashlight, dedicated to comics and
graphic novels. She is also in the midst of writing her first CNF Novel.
When
she isn’t doodling or dreaming up stories, you’ll likely find her spoiling her
dogs rotten, turning her home into a jungalow, driving to the mountains, or
laughing at her own dad jokes. Her travel plans almost always involve remote
islands, incredible food, and diving for conservation—or getting up close and
personal with apex predators and whales.
Noni and Paati Make a Dosa, published
by Speaking Tiger, marks her debut as a children’s book author.
