Mitra Desai is an Australian-based Indian author, speaker and researcher whose work explores overlooked chapters of India's history and the ways Indian knowledge and contributions have been represented in mainstream historical narratives. Trained in law in India and holding a Master's degree in Criminal Justice from the United States, she has lived and worked in Australia for more than a decade. Her writing combines historical research with storytelling, often examining questions of cultural memory, colonialism and India's intellectual and scientific heritage.
She is the author of Sitala: The Indian Roots of Vaccination and The Flag of Ananta: In Sugriva's Footsteps. Her research and writing on Sushruta and India's medical traditions have also featured prominently in her work through Tejomaya Bharat, her digital platform for sharing research, stories and perspectives on India's cultural heritage.
