Ambassador Gurjit Singh is a distinguished Indian diplomat who served the Government of India for 37 years. Following postings in Japan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, and Italy, he served as Ambassador to Germany, Indonesia, Timor-Leste, ASEAN, Ethiopia, and Djibouti, and as India's Representative to the African Union.
He has contributed significantly to India's engagement with Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Indo-Pacific. A passionate advocate of the Act East Policy and proficient in Japanese, he is widely recognised as a leading commentator on ASEAN, Africa, the Global South, and India's evolving foreign policy.
An accomplished author, he has written on India's relations with Japan, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Germany, Africa, and ASEAN. His works include The Abalone Factor, The Injera and the Paratha, Masala Bumbu, Travels Through Time, Opportunity Beckons, The Harambee Factor, and The Durian Flavour (published as The Mango Flavour by ISEAS). He is an Honorary Professor at IIT Indore, chairs the CII Business Task Force on Trilateral Cooperation in Africa, and promotes sustainable development and impact investment across Africa, ASEAN, and beyond.
