Ambassador Gurjit Singh is a distinguished Indian diplomat who served the Government of India for 37 years, with postings in Germany, Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Japan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, and Italy. He is the only Indian diplomat to have served as Ambassador to both ASEAN and the African Union, making significant contributions to India's engagement with Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Indo-Pacific. A passionate advocate of the Act East Policy, he is trained in Japanese and is widely recognized as a leading commentator on ASEAN, Africa, the Global South, and India's evolving foreign policy. Ambassador Singh is also an accomplished author, with notable works including The Abalone Factor, The Injera and Paratha, Masala Bumbu, Travels Through Time, Opportunity Beckons, The Harambee Factor, The Mango Flavour, and The Durian Flavour, which explore India's strategic, cultural, and economic relationships with Japan, Germany, Africa, and ASEAN. Beyond diplomacy, he has served as an Honorary Professor at IIT Indore, chaired the CII Task Force on Trilateral Cooperation in Africa, and actively promotes sustainable development goals and impact investment across Africa, ASEAN, and other regions.
