Dr Rakhshanda Jalil is a writer, translator and literary historian, whose body of work spans several decades and genres. She has published over 25 books, which include edited volumes, translations, biographies, as well as her own short stories, essays and full-length critical texts, reflecting the range and depth of her literary contributions.
Some of her notable books include Liking Progress, Loving Change: A History of the Progressive Writers' Movement, Shahryar: A Life in Poetry, A Rebel & Her Cause: The Life and Work of Dr Rashid Jahan, But You Don't Look Like a Muslim, Love in the Time of Hate: In the Mirror of Urdu, and Baal-o-Par: The Collected Works of Gulzar, among others.
In addition to her extensive literary output, she runs Hindustani Awaaz, an organization dedicated to the popularisation of Hindi–Urdu, further cementing her role as a champion of language and literary heritage.
