Bahar Dutt is an award-winning environmental journalist and conservation biologist, widely regarded as one of the foremost voices for the environment in India. She holds a degree in social work from the University of Delhi and a master's in wildlife conservation from the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology, University of Kent. Before turning to journalism, she spent nearly a decade working with the Bahelia community of snake charmers across Rajasthan and Haryana, helping transform their traditional practice into a sustainable, conservation-friendly livelihood project. She went on to spend over a decade as Environment Editor with CNN-IBN (later CNN-News18), where her investigative reporting led to the shutdown of an illegal mine in Goa and an illegal mall on the Yamuna riverbed, and shaped environmental policy across India.
She is the only Indian environmental journalist to have won the Wildscreen Green Oscar, and has received over a dozen national and international awards for her reportage, including the Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Environmental Reporting. She is the author of two books, Green Wars: Dispatches from a Vanishing World (HarperCollins, 2010) and Rewilding in India: Experiments in Saving Nature (Oxford University Press, 2019), and hosts the YouTube show Earth Talks for the Observer Research Foundation. She lives in New Delhi with her family.
