Ameer Shahul is an author focusing on healthcare, public policy and climate change. His latest book, The Silent Syndicate: How Big Finance is Destroying India's Healthcare (Hachette, 2026), examines the growing influence of private equity, foreign capital and financial interests on India's healthcare system.
His debut, Heavy Metal: How a Global Corporation Poisoned Kodaikanal (Pan Macmillan, 2023), won the GreenLitFest Book of the Year Award 2024 and was longlisted for the Tata Literature Live! Awards 2023. It has been translated into Tamil and is being adapted into a Hindi feature film for Netflix.
His second book, Vaccine Nation: How Immunisation Shaped India (Pan Macmillan, 2025), traces India's long journey in vaccine development and immunisation and has been commended by leading vaccine scientists and public-health experts. His next book, Liquid Empire (HarperCollins, 2027), explores the commodification of water. Before turning to writing, Shahul held leadership roles in global corporations for two decades and worked as a journalist with Reuters, AFP and Press Trust of India.
