Mita Vasisht is an Indian film, television, and theater actress. She has showcased her
acting skills in the lead roles in avant-garde cinemas, middle-of-the-road cinemas, and
successful hit and heavy-budget Bollywood movies. Being passionate about her skills, she
researches and also prefers to write her scripts. She has contributed as both an actor and
director to the theater world.
She has produced and written three short films and a series for television. She was the
executive producer of the award-winning film The Name of a River, a BFI and NFDC Bangladesh
film co-production. She has also performed her solo play, Lal Ded, in Hindi and English. It
is based on the life of medieval Kashmiri mystic Lal Ded.
She founded Mandala, a platform for art collaborations, research, and education. It aimed to
initiate a modern movement in the arts, to highlight performing arts in society, and to
facilitate artistic collaborations. She is also a visiting faculty at some of the prominent
design, film, and theater institutes of India. Along with acting, she equally devotes her
time to social and humanitarian work.
She has also directed and produced numerous television programs and documentaries. In 2012
she directed the documentary film She, of the Four Names, commissioned by Public Services
Broadcasting Trust, India. She has portrayed her talent in popular television shows such as
Kahani Ghar Ghar ki, Suvreen Guggal, Jodha Akbar, and Kaala Teeka. Her versatility is also
reflected by the variety of roles she plays.
Among her many achievements are the Star Screen Award for Best Supporting Actress, the
Bengal Film Journalist Award (BFJA) Awards for Best Supporting Actress, and Moonwhite Films
International Film Fest for Best Actress Supporting Role. She has been a jury member at
OSIAN'S CINEFAN International Film Festival, the Tenth MAMI International Film Festival, and
the Mumbai International Film Festival.
