Ashwini Bhatnagar is a full-time author, documentary film-maker and a professional journalist.

He has published 16 books so far, both in fiction and non-fiction category.

His book, The Lotus Years: Political Life in India During the Time of Rajiv Gandhi, was nominated for the Best Non Fiction Book of the Year Award at the TataLit Live 2020.

Half a dozen of his other books, including a biography of actress Meena Kumari and Operation Khatma, have been bought by producers for audio-visual adaptions. Two new books, one on the life of painter Amrita Sher- Gil, and another on former Chief Minister of J&K Dr. Farooq Abdullah are being readied for release end of 2022.

Ashwini has had a long and distinguished career as a journalist. He held editorial leadership positions in The Times of India, The Tribune, The Sunday Mail and The Pioneer. He was also Channel Head for two TV news channels.

He has written, produced and directed four long form documentaries. His much acclaimed documentary Diary of a Kashmiri Pandit, anchored by actress Deepti Naval, captured the trauma of migration of the Pandits from the Valley. It is currently playing on Jio Prime Movies.

He’s also a senior communication strategy specialist for international bodies like Unicef, WHO, etc.
