FICTION

The author grew up in Bombay. Her penchant for unexpected twists in her tales can be squarely blamed on the childhood summers spent in the ancestral home. A place full of secret corridors, cupboards and books.

A five year stint as an air hostess, spent mostly staring down at passing continents and oceans from 30,000 feet, taught her that the earth has no borders. And so the mind humbly opened to accept all that the ether chose to download into it. There is a rightful place for both, the profound and the profane.

Over 2 decades in filmmaking as a designer, visualiser, editor, writer, producer and director. She is an international expert in 3D holography, clocking over 4000 shows. She is currently giving the final touches to 'Hey Kameeni', a Hindi feature film written and produced by her.

She lives with her two daughters in Hyderabad, India.

Ms Anjali Joshi and Ms Lipsa Panda talk about Ms Joshi’s new book Raptor Rising at OCLF 2021

On 27th 4.00 pm - 4.40 pm

After a very warm welcome, Ms Lipsa Panda gives Ms Anjali Joshi an extended introduction to acknowledge her exceptional work over the past. Ms Panda cuts to the chase right away and requisitions Ms Joshi to give the viewers an insight into how she ended up with the title, “Raptor Rising”. Ms Joshi explains that as amazing as the title sounds, it also has a deeper meaning to it. In her words, we all have a Raptor that’s Rising within us and some of those Raptors have predator instincts which very well describes the characters in the book. That’s how Ms Joshi ended up with this title. Ms Panda in a very curious question asks Ms Joshi about the women in her book and Ms Joshi answers the questions by describing the female characters in her book as very strong. Also, she goes on to say that these characters are mostly independent of gender stereotypes. But she also goes on to describe the protagonist as a mix of a brave person and a psychopath who does anything possible to kill and does use her gender as a tool. The discussion on the book continues with a few more interesting questions back and forth and then comes to a close.
